What causes discolouration?

There are numerous types of teeth stains: pharmacological, genetic or environmental. The most common are surface stains on the enamel or beneath the enamel in the dentine.

Surface stains are caused by food, beverages and lifestyle behaviours like smoking. Over time the surface stains can penetrate the enamel and change the colour of the dentine, which darkens the overall appearance of the tooth due to the translucency of enamel. When this occurs the tooth often appears yellow.

How does Zoom assist with teeth whitening?

Zoom hydrogen peroxide gel treats stains through a chemical reaction. Hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide causes a chemical reaction, which causes a chemical reaction that breaks apart the carbon bonds that create yellow stains.
